Organized by the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda in Porto Cervo, presented an entry list particularly rich of important names of the international sailing panorama, including also some protagonists of the America’s Cup as Fracesco De Angelis, Vasco Vascotto, Terry Hutchinson, Vincenzo Onorato, Hamish Pepper, Francois Brenac, Sandro Montefusco, Matteo Ivaldi and Tommaso Chieffi of Matrix ArcaTxActive on tactics is the new M30 World Champion.
On the fourth and final day of the Moby M30 Worlds, Matrix ArcaTxActive (ITA), owned by Luigi Amedeo Melegari and Gianmarco Rinaldi of the Yacht Club Cortina d’Ampezzo, equipped with Montefusco Sails, designed and built using the SpidertechTM Technology has demonstrated a firmly superiority and optimal speed performances with every weather condition since the very first day.
Parimor Thule, an other important protagonist among the Italian challengers, equipped with the SpidertechTM Technology and owned by Fausto Rubbini unfortunately had to face two disqualifications tarnishing her good race results: finishing 13th in the overall ranking. Cheyenne, equipped with the SpidertechTM Technology, finished 12th in the overall ranking showing great abilities in a highly technical regatta. The remaining boats equipped with SpidertechTM Technology, finished with the following classification: 14th Spirit Of Simone (Bianchetti) -21st Hiroshi (Lightbay Sailing Team-Giulietti) -25th Diletta (Mocchegiani).
Here are some comments of the protagonists.

Luigi Amdeo Melegari, co-shipowner of Matrix ArcaTxActive: “A very demanding competition for the technical level and the changing marine environment such strong winds, choppy seas and also calm conditions. I’m really so happy for this victory because it represents the reward of the hard job we faced all season long. The world champion title is the most beautiful goal for every sportsman. However gaining it with a first place during the last day of racing has been a unique experience for us exploring all our feelings: incredulity, euphoria, humility. Having this feeling in mind and heart we will prepare the following regattas. I obviously have to thank the Montefuscos, always dear friends and strong competitors on the water since the times of the 470: they have done an excellent job and Matrix has confirmed itself as the fastest boat of the fleet, also in Porto Cervo. I would also like to thank the judges, starting from the president Peter Reggio, leading precise and regular regattas. What is in the future of Matrix? The Italian and the European Championships and World Championship 2008, where we will struggle to defend the title”.

Tommaso Chieffi, of Matrix ArcaTxActive on tactics : “It is always difficult to decide the credits for a victory between the boat or the crew. In this case they have both worked together to reach the Formula for Success: the crew has been fantastic showing perfect manoeuvring. The owner has helmed masterfully. The boat has been very fast, at all time during this season. The sails have shown a great stability and great performances in every conditions. Despite my long experience in this field, this victory assumes a particular taste for me both for the atmosphere we experienced and my personal revenge for the ugly performance during the Farr 40 against a fleet composed primarily of the same competitors.”

Sandro Montefusco, Parimor Thule:
“It has been an important World Championship for many aspects. We are disappointed for the two disqualifications which brought us to the 13th place. Parimor had the speed and the capacity to rank among the top five. As a sailmaker, I have to state that I’m really happy to have seen the validity and the efficiency of our products and of our designer-sailmakers job in this particular context in Porto Cervo such as a World Series. Thanks to SpidertechTM we have added to the market a top level product, with which we are equipping the largest part of the Mumm 30 of the Italian fleet”.
